A Very Special Adopt a Gluten Fee Blogger with The Good Eatah

Welcome to a very special edition of Adopt a Gluten Free Blogger!

This event, created and often hosted by Sea at Book of Yum, invites bloggers to "adopt" another GF blogger, make one of their recipes, and blog about it. It is a really fun event, and if you have never done this, I would encourage you to do so during the next event.

I was a regular at this from the inception, and even hosted a round last year. But then time and other things caught up to me, to the point where it had been a long time since I participated. So, mustering up my determination, I decided to go forth and adopt someone for the March edition.
And I found a special recipe by a special person, which helped me celebrate a special occasion.
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to Liz, the Good Eatah.

Liz was nicknamed "The Good Eatah" as a child because she loved to clean her plate. Still does, but now she does it GFCF-style. Her blog is filled with wonderful recipes and stories of life with her dog Henry, including the now planning of her wedding! Congrats Liz!

But what drew me to Liz was a special cake, made for a special niece. And the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion in our home.
Today was Olivia's 7th Birthday!

Olivia is our resident artist and one sweetheart of a child. And for her birthday, I wanted to make something special. And Liz had the perfect solution.

Please allow me to present our version of The Good Eatah's Caterpillar Cake!

What we have is a cake made with Liz's recipe in a bundt pan, then cut in half and put back together in an S-shape to form the caterpillar. Add frosting, Skittles for eyes (the wife wouldn't let me add Skittles for spots - didn't want sugar overload), and swedish fish for legs and the antennae. It was a great cake, and Olivia and her siblings absolutely loved it.
But as much as the cake, what drew me to this recipe was the story behind it. You see, this was the cake Liz's mom made for her and her sister's birthdays growing up. And now, this family tradition is continuing, GFCF-style, for the next generation in the family. This is my favorite way to embrace the GFCF lifestyle - taking traditional family recipes and making them GFCF and delicious for you children and nieces and nephews to enjoy. That's what it's all about.
So Liz, thank you for the inspiration and the great cake. And Sea, thank you for being patient with me and allowing me to post this a few days late so I could make it for Olivia's birthday.

Thomas, you rock! Thank you so much for adopting me and for your kind, kind words. After a few days of being sick this is exactly the pick-me-up I needed to feel better.

I love how Sea started the adopt a GF blogger idea. I've done it in the past, but with wedding planning fun things like that have taken a backseat. I hope to get back into it soon.

And Happy Birthday to Olivia! What a beautiful little girl she is :)

Thanks again Thomas!
